I moved to New York a little over a year ago, but I only recently went to my first doctor appointment here. It’s not that I haven’t been taking care of myself, I’ve just been saving all of my check-ups for any trips home to Northern Virginia. There’s something comforting about going to the same doctor who’s been treating you for years, or even your whole life.
With no near trip home on my schedule and my contact supply running out, I decided it was time to find an eye doctor in NYC. My first instinct was to go to a co-worker for advice (thanks Amanda!) since we have the same health insurance plan and we live near each other. Due to her recommendation, I had a great visit with my new eye doctor and the whole process of finding a doctor was quick, easy and completely pain-free (minus the whole eyes being dilated thing).
I’m curious though, how do you find a doctor when you move somewhere new? Do you go to a co-worker, friend or family member? Or do you look online and compare doctors’ ratings?
