After work last night I made my way to the IZOD Center in New Jersey where Dave Matthews Band was set to perform. When I arrived, I couldn’t help but notice groups of 20-somethings filling the venue. Meanwhile, I proudly spent the evening dancing and screaming lyrics from my favorite songs alongside my nearly 50-year-old father. Whenever I tell people that I’m going to see a rock concert with my dad (which we’ve done at least twice a year for the past decade), they look at me funny. But why wouldn’t I go with him? We share an experience that we will both remember forever and have an opportunity to chat about what’s going on in our lives. Next weekend I’m taking my 18-year-old brother, an aspiring filmmaker, to see several movies at Tribeca Film Festival—an experience I know he will cherish.
